Can Qurban Meat Be Distributed Outside the Slaughter Area?
Generally, Qurban meat should be distributed within the local community where the sacrifice is performed. This follows the example of Prophet Muhammad SAW, who offered his Qurban at his local place of prayer.
As narrated in Sahih Al-Bukhari (Hadith 5552):
"The Prophet SAW used to offer the sacrifice at the place of prayer (Eid)."
Classical scholars like Imam Al-Nawawi and Al-Khatib Al-Sharbini advised against moving Qurban meat elsewhere, comparing it to zakat, which must also stay local. One reason is to protect the feelings of local poor people who might only eat meat during Eid.
However, scholars such as Al-Mawardi and Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi allowed the distribution of Qurban meat outside the area, especially in times of need. In Malaysia and well-developed country, where local needs are often met, it is permissible to send Qurban meat to disaster and war zones.
Can Qurban Meat Be Distributed After Eid?
The 10th to 13th of Zulhijjah is the time for performing the sacrifice, not for distributing the meat. If the Qurban is done during this time, the meat can be preserved and distributed later.
So long as the slaughter is done within the proper days, distribution can happen afterward—especially with modern preservation methods like ready-to-eat packs.
This approach allows us to continue supporting communities in need over time, ensuring no food is wasted and no one is left behind.
